OEM Yamaha ring used at the oil pan/cylinder‑case interface on many 75–250 HP Yamaha four‑strokes (including F115 families), so fit and groove compression are proven across a very large installed base. Photo shows a standard black compression‑molded ring with clean, even surface—typical OEM finish. For this static hot‑oil seal, Yamaha’s OEM spec (Yamaha lists nitrile/NBR on similar O‑rings) is appropriate and avoids compatibility surprises; install with a light film of oil and avoid over‑torque, as user communities note that nicks and over‑compression are common causes of seepage. Overall, the combination of assured fit, controlled material spec, and broad model usage makes the OEM the safest pick. Better
Aftermarket equivalent that cross‑references to Yamaha 93210‑19MJ1 and Mercury/Quicksilver numbers; seller materials describe a marine elastomer resistant to oil and saltwater, and the brand promotes ISO‑9001 quality control and a 2‑year warranty. The photo and in‑hand observation (same dimensions/texture) suggest proper profile; the slightly firmer feel likely reflects a higher durometer (hardness)—common for NBR compounds—which can improve nick resistance but may need careful groove prep to seat as easily as a softer ring. For an oil‑pan application, a 70–80A NBR is typical; as users frequently report, the key to a dry seal is light lubrication and avoiding over‑tightening rather than brute stiffness alone. A solid value choice when OEM isn’t required, with the caveat that explicit compound/durometer are not published for this SKU. Engine: Yamaha F115TLR Shopping experience: Crowley Marine is my go to place for parts. I seem to acquire outboards that are broken or don’t run and use Crowley to help me out. Repair difficulty: Hard Repair time: More than 4 hours Repair symptoms: Gas in oil During a boating trip my 2006 Yamaha 115 4 stroke quit. No alarms, no warning. Took it to a dealer and they said water in oil. No doubt and the engine was junk. The boat yard put a new 115 Mercury 4 stroke on my boat and I decided to take the Yamaha home to take apart and see why it failed. It was assumed that the adaptor plate corroded and water leaked into the oil pan. When I took the motor apart the was no corrosion anywhere. I questioned water in the oil and spoke to several outboard mechanics. One thought that gas could be leaking into the oil pan through the cylinders due to a faulty thermostat. I had a laboratory analyze the oil for water content. Gas in the oil was much more costly to determine. The lab result was no water so the only other source was gas. Bottom line, the boat yard mechanic totally missed diagnosed the problem resulting in a very costly new engine. It appears that a simple $60 thermostat and an oil change and filter would have solved the problem. I have received all the parts from Crowley Marine and I am now in the process of putting the Yamaha back together. When its completed I will follow up on the outcome.

Engine: Yamaha F115 Shopping experience: Excellent Repair difficulty: Hard Repair time: More than 4 hours Repair symptoms: Water in engine oil We removed the power head to gain access to the oil pan, oil pump, and related gaskets. We determined that the oil pan gasket was compromised and water from the cooling ports gained entrance into the engine oil causing pressure that caused the oil pump to fail. The power head tested as it should and we replaced all of the wear components from the oil pan to the power head.
