Product Questions 2

Rectifier Assembly 6G1-81970-63-00 Roughly what should be the max voltage that the rectifier regulates voltage to? On my outboards battery I have a voltgauge and when outboard is running I'm seeing 17+volts....starts off around 12.6 then just keeps going up once motor is started. Isn't the rectifier technically a rectifier regulator and supposed to limit voltage somewhere around 14v or am I wrong? Motor is a 1994 Yamaha 25hp 2stroke model 25elrs

The rectifier assembly you mentioned, 6G1-81970-63-00, is indeed a rectifier regulator commonly used in Yamaha outboard motors. Its primary function is to convert alternating current (AC) from the engine's stator into direct current (DC) to charge the battery and power the electrical system, while also regulating the voltage to prevent overcharging. In a properly functioning charging system, the voltage should typically stabilize around 13.5 to 14.5 volts when the engine is running, ensuring efficient charging without damaging the battery or electrical components. Seeing a voltage of 17+ volts on your voltmeter while the engine is running indicates an overcharging issue, which could be attributed to a malfunctioning rectifier regulator. This could lead to damage to the battery, as well as other electrical components. Given the age of your outboard motor (1994 Yamaha 25hp), it's possible that the rectifier regulator may need to be replaced or that there could be other issues with the charging system. It's recommended to have a qualified technician inspect the charging system to diagnose and address the problem properly.
