Repair difficulty: Hard Repair time: 2 to 4 hours Repair symptoms: Engine wouldn't run above a fast idle in gear. Did a halfhearted winterization of the engine in Oct, essentially a freshwater flush, drain and added Sta-bil to the tank but had less than half what I needed on hand. Also left the tanks half full. Come June the engine cranked right up, idled smoothly but would not plane. Seemed clearly to be a fuel problem so started cleaning and replacing the filters, a total of four. One next to the tank and three on the engine. Poured out dirty, algae filled fuel from the tank filter and the first filter on the engine. Also drained some nasty fuel from the bottom of the fuel pump. Still no joy. To clean the filter in the pump required significant disassembly so called in a pro. Two hour job to remove the manifold and a lot of wires and hoses. But this did the job. Lesson learned, next year do a complete winterization, add more Sta-bil and leave the tanks filled.
