Engine: Yamaha 9.9 Shopping experience: Very good. Ordering from Canada meant it took a couple of week to arrive (Canada customs may have been the delay). Also the $19 US part ended up costing $40 cdn but that is minor. Repair difficulty: Easy Repair time: Less than 30 mins Repair symptoms: broken gear shift lever. Easy replacement. I just removed the broken half of the control lever from the control cable. Then undid the screw to remove the other broken piece that was still on the interior gear control shaft. Then simply replace the control lever (including the little ring washer) Just make sure the cable controls are set to match the gear (ie in my case the control lever broke off with the motor in forward). so that the control cable aligns with the new gear lever. Also, in terms of prevention, do not grab the external gear control lever when steadying yourself while standing out on the swim grid. They break!!
